13. »Service Design Jam« – Service Design

The Global Service Jam is a global event with more than 100 locations around the world. We had 48 hours to change the world through Service Design approach!
For that, we adopted a playful mindset for a serious goal.

I joined a group of enthusiastic service design apprentices for two days, where we practiced the methods and process of Service Design with a fictional but relevant problem.

So during these two days we got a topic, we formed teams, we researched, ideated, prototyped and presented our solutions.

The main topic of this jam was the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the challange for our group was »Education with/for migrants« which was inside the ‘Reducing Inequality’ goal.
Our process started by making a desktop reasearch and then we went out on the streets to make some interviews and find out how cologne citizens have expierienced this situation.

After our research we started to ideate with the help of our »how might we...« question which was: »How might we empower migrant children to minimize ‘them vs us’ situation in and outside the school?«. We chose one of the ideas to then prototype our final outcome, which is an interactive memory card game where children in a classroom can create together their own cards but with a totally new langauge for the pictures in it and play together forgetting about their differences.

After presenting our process and prototype, we uploaded it into the Global Service Jam platform. This was the second time I join this jam sessions, I really enjoyed it, got connected with other designers and practiced Service Design skills.
